Volunteering at Joeys

When it comes to volunteering, passion and positivity are the only requirements!

St Joseph’s Football & Netball Club is a large club which relies heavily on volunteers. Without the support of many people it would be very difficult to run the Club. We believe in sharing the load amongst our many players, families and supporters.

In order to function, we need all families and supporters to contribute time in both match related (team managing, scoring, time keeping etc) AND a minimum of 2 hours per family in non-match related activities, such as canteen and other social activities.

You will hear about match related activities from Team Managers; you can sign up for non-match related activities by clicking on the link below:

The main areas of non-match related volunteering are helping out with Thursday evening meals and in the canteen during Saturday home matches and on selected Sundays. The canteen/clubrooms are a valuable source of connection for the Joeys community, the income helps the club and helps to keep players’ fees down.

Volunteering at Joeys is a great way for students to gain school points for ‘community service’ and can be used by students and adults to add skills/experience to resumes. (Note the minimum age for students volunteering in the canteen is 13; for every volunteer under the age of 15, there must also be an adult volunteering during that shift).

Thursday night meals
Darren (canteen manager/chef) and Bree manage all operations on Thursday nights. Volunteers assist by taking orders at the counter, operating the cash register, stacking the dishwasher and washing a few pots. We have 2 x 90 minute shifts with 2 people on per shift.

Saturday canteen
Sheryl will be present to manage the canteen operations during all home games. Volunteers serve food and drinks, operate the cash register and assist with food preparation. We have 4 x 2 hour shifts with 4 people on per shift.

Sunday canteen
We are keen to have canteen facilities available for Sunday games when there are several matches on. Volunteers serve food and drinks, operate the cash register and assist with food preparation. Depending on matches, we have 4 shifts with 2 people on per shift.

There are many time slots where we need help. Rosters are available and ready for sign ups per the link below and we will be progressively adding more dates.

If you book a time slot and then are unable to attend, please ask around to find a replacement.

“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” — Unknown

Why volunteer?
• Volunteers are happier, healthier and sleep better than those who don’t volunteer – Doctor Joe recommends it
• Volunteering allows you to connect to our community and make it a better place
• Children watch everything you do. By giving back to the community, you show them firsthand how volunteering makes a difference and how good it feels to help other people
• The experience of helping others provides meaning, a sense of self-worth, a social role and health enhancement
