Seniors
The games against Newtown are always hard fought, and Saturday was no exception. We got off to a good start, and the lead should have been greater at ¼ time but for our inaccuracy. 2nd quarter was similar, with Streety controlling the ruck giving our on-ballers first use of the footy. In the 2nd half, our goal kicking again wasn’t great, but managed to pull away and win by 54 points. Our defence was fantastic all day, led by our captain Cory Bauer, the Lovick brothers, Dean Stankavic and 16 year old Keiran Paliouras. In the middle Streety and our smaller brigade worked really hard, with Hayden Foss playing his best game since returning to the club, Torin, Josh Rudd and Brett Jackman getting plenty of the footy.
For Reserves and U/18's.......
Reserves
After a really good and committed first half against strong opposition, we faded badly in the 2nd half when decimated by injury. This young side will continue to improve and plenty of young players are emerging. Exciting young players who had a real impact were Alex Simpson, Jared Malone, Luke Davidson and Dean Trembath. Congratulations to Mat Bolton and Mat Burn who played their 100th game in the 2’s on their way back to the seniors.
U/18’s
Under 18's recorded their first win for the season on Saturday after a hard fought battle against Newtown. After coming off a disappointing loss to Colac in round 1 it was a pleasing return to form for several players who helped contribute to a much better performance. Cam Johnston, Jake Mongelli and Lucky Stankovic were the standouts for joeys whilst Scott Jennings game at CHB was also very solid. Sam Dennis, Ben Darrington and Chris Danielle controlled the midfield and were well supported by captain Mitch Capra who is showing strong leadership. The second 18 side had a 1 point loss to Ocean Grove in their first game for the year but expect rapid improvement within this group in the coming weeks.
