SENIORS
Saturday we ventured out to Windsor Park to take on North Shore. The day was a special one, particularly for one of St Joeys favorite sons in Luke Forbes and an up-and-coming star of the future in Jono Casey. Luke tragically injured his knee in the pre-season last year and required a re-construction and after 18 months on the side lines, made his long awaited comeback. Coming on and off the bench, he played up forward and had a few shots on goal, and finished with one for the afternoon. This was a significant step forward for him and the club and happy he got through well. As for Jono, he is another junior that has debuted in the last 18 months. He was our U/18 captain in 2008, and after some outstanding games in the reserves, started on the ground and fitted straight in and was really solid in his first game.
As for the game, the boys started well again and held a 33 point lead at ¼ time. In the 2nd quarter the seagulls fought back and outscored us, with Joeys going into the break with a 32 point lead. After ½ time, the boys took control of the game and ran out 81 point winners. Better players were Joe Macula, who played his best game since returning to the club, Josh Bell, Tom Hornsey, who kicked 6 goals, Josh Rudd, James Fitzgerald and Matt Burn. With Torin Baker, Hayden Foss, Daniel Lovick, Alex Simpson, Adam Podbury, Paul Minne, Tom Littore and Matt Bolton all to return in the next few weeks, the side will only get stronger.
RESERVES
The reserve side had a good win with a very young side. We had an excellent first half with Voss and Davidson leading the way up forward and a winning centre line of Malone, Hinchcliffe and Trembath. Ryan and Vinnicombe gave us plenty of run off the backline. Chris Danielle playing his first game up kicked 3 goals and gave us great run out the middle. We look forward to the further improvement and wins over the next month.
U/18’s
Both under 18 sides recorded solid victories on the weekend. The "A" side with both Lucky Stankovic & Chris Danielle called up for reserves duty easily accounted for a hard working North Shore in what proved to be a solid hit-out. Jake Mongelli was the standout playing a solid game in the centre along with
Ben Darrington continually drove the ball forward. Rhys Hultgren was in fine form at CHF and finished the day with 4 goals as well as some solid ruck work.
Daniel Courtney played on North Shore best player at CHB and worked hard to eventually get on top repelling many attacks, San Dennis continued his good start to the season and the recalled Dan Holroyd played a good game and shows continued improvement.
The second side also had a solid win against Sth Barwon with the returning Rohan Pickett finishing with 4 goals. Ricky Kiss and Paddy Mithen both played solid games and Tom Bates was a good performer after returning from the "A" side.
