Anzac Day - Rnd 3 v's Sth Barwon

shermo_and_fitzy.jpg

Congratulations needs to go to both clubs for all the work that went into the first clash for the Anzac Day Cup. Fortunately the weather held off for the official ceremony prior to the senior game, and as expected the main game was a great battle.

SENIORS

We started off really well in the first quarter, having 10 shots on goal to 1, but failing to take full advantage of our dominance. Josh Rudd had plenty off the footy, Streety was getting his hand on the ball in the middle and our defence were rebounding anything that came their way. The second quarter probably cost us the game, with South Barwon kicking 8 goals 1 and going in at half time 1 point in front. Due to the late start and some pretty ordinary weather, the second half started with the lights on. It was a real arm wrestle and going into the last quarter the game was up for grabs. By this stage the weather had set in and was played in terrible conditions, with South kicking the only goal for the quarter and getting home by 6 points. Better players on the day were Brett Jackman, who battled his heart out, Tom Hornsey was terrific up forward with 3 goals, the Lovick brothers down back, Dean Stankovic and Joe Macula.

RESERVES

After losing their first 2 games for the year, our reserves were really keen to play well on Saturday for Anzac Day. Their attack on the footy was great all game , and in the end got their first win on the board against a pretty strong South Barwon line-up by 35 points. Pods and his coaching staff are doing a terrific job with the young group, and deserved the result on the weekend. Better players were Paul Minnie, kicking 4 goals and putting his hand up for a senior game, Matt Bolton, Andrew Hodgson, Chris Price and Luke Davidson.

U/18’s

Under 18's worked hard in blustery conditions to record a 1 point win over Sth Barwon in Saturdays Anzac day clash. The game was tight all day as both sides took advantage when kicking to the southern end of the ground although it was joeys ability to score into the wind that was the difference at the end of the game.Allan Witcombe did a teriffic job when set the task of running with Falcon Joel Edwards and kept him quite for most of the afternoon, Scott Jennings was once again solid at full back well supported by Mitch Capra and Cam Johnston who controlled the half back line in the last quarter after playing the previous 3 on ball. Ben Darrington, Chris Danielle and Jake Mongelli gave the side continued drive out of the middle thanks to the good ruck work of Daniel Courtney and Tom Barber.

Sam Dennis played his best game since joining the club and made the outer wing his own whilst up forward Reece Hultgren was fantastic again supported by a smaller full forward line which include Jordan Watts who provided a real miss match for the Sth Barwon Team. Zac Morrison was very solid in his first A game. Overall, a really pleasing team effort that has the boys sitting on two wins from three games, and a chance to consolidate with a win this week against the much improved St Albans.
