Congratulations to the friends & family of Michael who put on a great show at Capri Receptions on May 24th. Organiser Nick Maxwell was delighted that the fundraising objectives of the night had been exceeded, which is great news for some families that may get a much needed boost to get their kids through their education- thanks to Mick Carmody’s legacy. Losing one of our clubs champion blokes was a difficult thing, but the fun and celebration of Micks life that was evident at the fundraiser has given everyone a boost. St Josephs Football & Netball Club is proud of its association with the foundation and the Carmody Family, and in particular of our young members who assisted in the event. Nick Maxwell, Jimmy Bartel, Bill Brownless, Cameron Ling all assisted auctioneer Sammy McCombe and a fantastic array of sporting memorabilia, fashion, furniture and vouchers all went under the hammer, capped off by a great meal at Capri and great music from Off The Record. You can contribute to the Michael Carmody Foundation by visiting www.michaelcarmodyfoundation.com.au. Well done all on your support

Our A Graders’ undefeated run continued in Colac last week with the girls fighting out the win in tough conditions. If you combine this with the fact they had Katie Rossiter out injured, Tegan Caldwell on one leg, and Kirsten Hood getting over illness, it certainly was a huge effort to win the match. Fleet-footed coach Vikki Madden was best on the slippery court. Whilst our B Grade team suffered their second loss in a row, it was great to see Rachel Bell make the step up from C Grade with ease. Our C Graders are also undefeated after 6 rounds. Birthday girl Emma Hayes was a stand out. Finally, the D Grade girls won another close match against Colac led in the middle by superstar Kylie Cahill. This week’s 17 & Under comparison – Nikki Allen and Kristen Hood.

Before one could blink their eye Colac had three goals to their advantage, with rain coming down consistently and an oval that demanded fast running with clean skills, our Seniors were very much in the thick of the situation at half time being six goals down and facing a very clean Colac side.

It was an ominous warning, with the bus running late and weather coming in worse by the minute, any skeptics would've been seen running from the seen.

Last week saw some mixed results for our senior teams. We had some good wins in both A & C Grade and some disappointing losses in B & D Grade. Christie “Everyone’s Hero” Barnes starred in the A Grade match, picking up the player of the round, after starting in the unlikely GA Bib. Renee “Proteect It” Davis killed it in B Grade, as per usual. And for our C Graders, if personal favourite Sophie O’Keefe isn’t leading the B&F, I’ll kick a goal post. Georgie Murphy battled out a tough match in defence in the D Grade game. Our 17s girls are starting to really impress as the season progresses. A new look team provides the opportunity for comparisons to senior players. This week’s is Perri Jones & Steph O’Keefe.

Supporters were treated to a great insight on life in the AFL past & present when the club had a sportsmans night after the big clash against St Mary’s on the 10th of May. With Cameron Ling visiting during the day, it was great to have past players Nick Maxwell and Tim Callen sharing the stage with club greats Shannyn Leach, Brett Hungerford and John Fitzgerald. Volunteers Ray Hoadley and Ange Biviano were recognised for their hard work and were given special edition polo shirts supplied by the AFL. The night turned into a great party with some impromptu Karaoke.

The after match for the last two weeks has been highlighted by the ever popular Life Member, Ray Hoadley (aka DJ Razorblade) serving up some classic hits and some not so classic hits on the disco floor. The supporters had a great night with visitors from Brisbane and melbourne dropping in to enjoy the big win over Newtown. Get behind all of the club functions this year and enjoy your club- "the Mighty Joeys"

A galent St Joseph's Football Squad took on lacklaster Newton Chilwell to continue an excellent record for season 2008. The Seniors took full control of the game after half-time with freakish efforts from Full Forward James Fitzgerald, strong persistance in the centre through Christian Shaw, and controlling the back line with an iron fist Daniel Lovick produced another week of good form.
